Evan Montvel Cohen and Sorensen Media Group support youth band competition.
|
Sorensen
Media Group is proud to announce the return of the ever-popular Youth
Rock – Battle of the Bands Competition. The event is scheduled to
take place on November 10, 2007, from Noon until 7 p.m. at Skinner's
Plaza in Hagåtña.
Youth
Rock is a great event for the entire family. It is an event where
teenagers participate in a friendly band competition. Teenagers move
to the music and family and friends support and cheer on each band.
Participants can be no older than 19 years of age and must still
attend school. The winners walk away with bragging rights as Guam's
Youth Rock Band and cool prizes will go to the top three winners.
Sorensen
Media Group CEO Rex Sorensen said, “This is a worthwhile event. It
is important that we continue to support our youth in their
endeavors. This is an event that promotes a positive lifestyle and an
appreciation for music.”
Sorensen
Media Group and Lotus Media Services Managing Director Evan Montvel
Cohen said, “Young musicians will draw a substantial crowd of
teenagers and 'tweens' – and that is the intent. We are giving back
to the community. One day these young artists will have their songs
aired on a Sorensen Media Group radio or television station. Rex and
I would like to thank all our supporting sponsors.”
Youth
Rock 2007 includes the Expression Session, Lead Guitar Challenge, and
Drum Solo competions – winners will receive prizes from Townhouse
Yamaha Music Center. The first place winner of the competition will
walk away with $1,000 in Bank of Guam savings bonds.
Non-profit
organizations will also be allowed to participate and sell items at
the event to raise funds for their perspective groups.
Youth
Rock 2007 is all about the youth and teens of Guam. Each year the
event continues to get bigger and bigger and is the only successful
battle of the bands competion on island.

Sorensen Media Group CEO Rex Sorensen
said, “Our men and women of the Armed Forces need to know that we
are still thinking of them and hope they return home safely,

wish them all the best this holiday season and si Yu'os ma'åse.”
Sorensen Media Group and Lotus Media

Evan Cohen and Rex Sorensen promote ABC's "Pushing Up Daisies" show.
According to executives of Guam ABC affiliate, ABC 7, Pushing Up Daisies is a hit.
Sorensen Media Group CEO Rex Sorensen said, “This show puts a
comedic sci-fi twist on the traditional private investigator shows of
the past. The odd and truly untouchable relationship between two of
the main characters of the show should make for good material in
future episodes.”
Lotus Media Services Managing Director Evan M. Cohen gives his
insight to possible sponsors regarding the demographic, “Sci-fi
fans and young people interested in the supernatural will find this
show to be fun. It's a private investigator slash love story mixed
into one. This show will bring fans of two genres together.”
Grown up Ned (Lee Pace) puts his talent to good use by touching
dead fruit and making it ripe with everlasting flavor. He opens a pie
shop. But his gift leaves him wary of becoming close to anyone, as
beautiful waitress Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth) finds out. His
life as a pie maker gets more complicated when private investigator
Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) finds out about Ned's secret. Emerson
convinces the cash-strapped Ned to help him solve murder cases (and
collect the hefty reward fees) by raising the dead and getting them
to name their killers.
Then Ned is handed the case that changes his life forever. His
childhood sweetheart, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles (Anna
Friel), is murdered on a cruise ship under strange circumstances. Her
death brings him back to his hometown of Coeur d' Coeurs to bring
Chuck back to life, albeit briefly, and solve the crime. But once
reunited with Chuck, Ned can't bring himself to send her back. He
helps her escape after her grieving aunts, Lily and Vivian (Swoosie
Kurtz, Ellen Greene), former synchronized swimmers Darling Mermaid
Darlings, think they've buried her forever.
Chuck becomes the third partner in Ned and Emerson's PI
enterprise, but she encourages them to use their skills for good, not
just for profit. Ned is overjoyed to be reunited with Chuck, the only
girl he's ever loved. Life would be perfect, except for one cruel
twist -- if he ever touches her again, she'll go back to being dead,
this time for good.

Guam ABC affiliate provides same day programming.
|
The ABC Network Primetime Programs seen on local affiliate ABC7 shows same day programming the day it is received. Same-day programming began July 31, 2006. Sorensen Media Group CEO Rex Sorensen said, “We are always looking to improve our service to our viewers. This was something people on Guam have asked for repeatedly in the past and now we are at a point where we can provide it.”
Since Guam is a day ahead of the U.S. mainland, programs will not be seen on the same day of the week as the mainland. Sunday Primetime shows on Monday ... Tuesday on Wednesday and so on. ABC7 will air programs within hours of the time it is received.
Sorensen Media Group and Lotus Media Services Managing Director Evan M. Cohen said, “This may not seem like much to U.S. mainland ABC viewers but Guam has, in the past, received television programming two weeks after the original air date. This is our attempt to provide the best possible service to our viewers.”
"This means our audience will no longer have to wait to see the latest episodes of our very popular shows such as 'Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Boston Legal, Extreme Home Makeover' and other prime time programs", said ABC7 Vice President and General Manager Ed Davis. "We show all network programs on the same day we take them in via our digital streamlink to the West Coast ," he added.
Davis pointed out that the switch was made during the summer, when network programs are in re-runs. "We believe fans of our programs will appreciate the same day broadcast of their favorite shows, with the only delay being a few hours to allow for the time difference between Guam and the mainland."

Evan Cohen and Rex Sorensen develop medical television program
|
Evan Cohen continues to develop television programming that will appeal to local Pacific markets while keeping in mind other opportunities in Asia and the U.S. It appears Cohen and Sorensen are collaborating to reach Pacific islander viewers.
Sorensen
Media Group and Lotus Media Services to air GU MD on Guam's FOX 6. Former Air America Chairman Evan
Montvel Cohen said GU MD is a medical television magazine providing a
fresh look at the positive stories related to medicine on Guam.
Sorensen Media Group and Lotus Media Services Managing Director Evan Cohen said GU
MD is a 30-minute medical magazine that peers past the health-care
headlines to reveal the world of modern medicine that exists on Guam.
GU MD shows local consumers and their families a refreshing new
perspective of health care as it really exists on Guam – a vibrant,
bustling industry rife with current and new technologies and run by
credentialed practitioners with high standards of patient care.
Sorensen
Media Group CEO Rex Sorensen said, “GU MD gives insight into big
breakthroughs, topnotch technology, and medical miracles that take
place on Guam. It will provide a base for more opportunities in
distributing quality stories across major U.S. and Asia markets.”
The
show has a feel and quality that could be seen and heard on a major
educational entertainment network. Cohen said, the content of GU MD
is strong enough that Lotus Media Services is developing a show
entitled, “Medical Mysteries of Micronesia” for distribution in
U.S. and Asia markets. Cohen said, “While there are possibilities
outside of Micronesia. The launch of this program provides viewers
with positive local healthcare options. There are challenges in the
healthcare industry, not just on Guam but all over the world, but
this program focuses on the best of what is available on an island in
the Pacific far removed from other major medical centers.”
Lotus
Media Services Executive Producer Sharla Montvel Cohen said, “We
haven't aired our first segment but I am already learning a great
deal about numerous medical procedures, facilities, and services
available to the community. The Lotus Media Services crew and I have
been to several locations and the type of local facilities that if
seen on television could be anywhere across the nation.”
GU
MD Host Joy James said, “I decided to join GU MD because I felt it
would allow me to give back to the community. It is a great way for
people learn more about health issues and the type of healthcare
options available ... right here on Guam.”

Liberal radio set for launch at month's end
|
Evan Cohen, the network's chairman and media entrepreneur. Cohen and his partner Sorensen have created original radio programming in Japan and Taiwan. “We realize it’s going to be an expensive proposition and hopefully, everyone has strong stomachs”, says Cohen. RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser understands that you have to sustain those losses in order to build a "quality audience" of ages 25 to 54 that will attract advertisers. Cohen said the network already has commitments from some advertisers, but declined to name them.
Walsh, Cohen, Sorensen, Glazer join forces to launch Air America radio
Excerpts from original article by John Cook, Tribune staff reporter.
In an effort to counteract the influence of conservative voices on the airwaves, liberal talk network Air America Radio will begin broadcasting on March 31.
"We will bring a fresh new voice to America's ears," Chief Executive Mark Walsh said Wednesday in a conference call with reporters. "Clearly, the great preponderance of talk radio in America today is right-wing oriented. We feel that there are listeners out there begging for entertainment, comedy and information that varies and is more robust than that which is available today."
The network will air original programming from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and will be available in Chicago on WNTD-AM 950. It will also launch in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, or roughly 20 percent of radio listeners nationwide, Walsh said. On weekends, the network will air a mix of new shows and rebroadcasts.
Air America's signature broadcast will be "The O'Franken Factor," a midday call-in show hosted by humorist Al Franken. It will air from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., opposite Rush Limbaugh, the nation's most popular talk-radio host. Evan Cohen, Air America Radio Chairman says “We’re excited to have Al on board, but we’re far more than a one-trick pony. We realize unless we provide relevant, entertaining, compelling talk radio, we’re not much of a network. What we’ve done is build a lineup of programming that will appeal to many different segments of this great underserved audience.”
Franken said the show, which will be co-hosted by Katherine Lanpher, a former Minnesota Public Radio host, will feature a mix of listener calls, news commentary and packaged comedy pieces centered around exposing what he said are lies propagated by conservatives.
"There's no liberal echo chamber in this country," Franken said. "There's a right-wing echo chamber. I want to create a countervailing echo chamber."
The show's title is a play on "The O'Reilly Factor," a Fox News Channel show hosted by Bill O'Reilly, with whom Franken has clashed. Fox sued Franken and his publisher last year over Franken's book, "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right," arguing that the use of a photograph of O'Reilly on the cover and the words "fair and balanced" infringed on Fox trademarks.
The suit was dismissed, but generated an enormous amount of publicity for the book. Franken said he is hoping for a replay. "Please, please, please sue us," he said.
Fox is apparently not taking the bait. "All forms of free speech are welcomed in America," said a Fox News Channel spokeswoman. "We wish them well."
Other shows will feature Lizz Winstead, co-creator of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show"; Florida talk show host Randi Rhodes; actress Janeane Garofalo; rapper Chuck D and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. There will also be periodic national and local newscasts.
Many radio insiders have viewed the venture with skepticism, and Walsh acknowledged that he faces a tough road.
"We have raised tens of millions of dollars," Walsh said. "[But] we do expect to lose money for a meaningful period of time--years, not months."
Walsh said the network's private investors--including Walsh, Evan Cohen, the network's chairman and media entrepreneur.
"Liberals buy cars and buy beer and consume products in America too," Walsh said.
Cohen said the network already has commitments from some advertisers, but declined to name them.
"They have a gargantuan task ahead of them," said Tom Taylor, the editor of Inside Radio, an industry newsletter. "This will debut with small ratings and even smaller revenues."
Indeed, according to a survey by Talkers, a talk-radio trade magazine, 37 percent of talk-radio listeners identify themselves as "conservative" or "ultraconservative," whereas 11 percent say they are "liberal" or "ultraliberal."

Sorensen and Cohen launch Lotus Media Services
There is a lot of movement in the Pacific Rim when it comes to media programming. Sorensen Media Group CEO Rex Sorensen and former Air America Chairman Evan Montvel Cohen are focusing on the development of television programming for the Guam and Asia markets. Sorensen and Cohen are working in familiar territory and are looking at opportunities to take the programming they have developed to larger markets.
Hagåtña, Guam - Sorensen Media Group CEO Rex Sorensen and Media Entrepreneur Evan Montvel Cohen teamed up to open up a savvy creative development company - Lotus Media Services. Both Sorensen and Cohen tout Lotus Media Services as a dynamic, strategic, creative development company. According to Cohen, Lotus Media Services is equipped with state-of-the-art tools and resources ready to provide turnkey broadcasting entertainment products. After buying the Guam FOX and ABC television stations Sorensen said he saw a need for local programming. Rex Sorensen and Evan Cohen started the creative content development house as a vehicle to introduce new local programming into the FOX and ABC affiliate stations on Guam.
Innovative programs developed for the Guam market include “GU MD”, “The Buzz”, and “TimeOut”. GU MD is a program aimed at telling positive stories about the medical industry and community on Guam, while the BUZZ looks to provide light-hearted “reality show” entertainment for Guam's “tweens” and teens, and TimeOut provides entertainment news from the Philippines in a fun and exciting “MTV” way. Looking ahead at future possibilities, Cohen said LMS is poised to create programming for other markets. Sorensen said, “While my intent is to ensure we fill the need to provide programming for the affiliate stations of FOX 6 and ABC 7 it is my goal to distribute unique and exciting broadcast programming products for Asia and North America.”
Sorensen Media Group has experience in providing programming for major markets. SMG worked with Radio I Nagoya and Inter FM Tokyo for five years to provide American radio programming for these two major Japanese markets. Sorensen and Cohen are already taking steps to realize the idea of providing television programming products to major markets and partnered with MTV Philippines to create programming for a large under served Filipino-American youth population in Guam.
“We are at the edge of both the Asian and American markets and we believe that Guam could be the vanguard for providing new and unique programming for both markets,” Cohen said. SMG is also launching television programming in Shanghai, China this year. Cohen and Sorensen returned to familiar and friendlier territory after their stint in New York.
Evan Cohen is a media entrepreneur who has owned and operated advertising agencies, publishing companies and radio networks. In 2004, Cohen launched Air America Radio, one of the mostly highly anticipated and talked about media launches in the last five years. In 2006, he returned to Guam and launched Lotus Media Services. He is the founder and Managing Director of Lotus Media Services. Cohen currently also is the Managing Director of News Talk K57, Power 98, 105 the KAT, FOX 6 and ABC 7.
Sorensen Media Group, a privately-held media and entertainment conglomerate, is the leading broadcast company in the Western Pacific with holdings in television, radio and Internet programming, development, production and broadcasting.
Rex Sorensen is Chairman and CEO of Sorensen Media Group which includes the stations of News Talk K57, Power 98, 105 The KAT, FOX 6 and ABC 7 on Guam. Rex Sorensen has been involved in building and creating media platforms in Asia and the United States for over 20 years.

Fox awards Sorensen affiliate station on Guam
It seems that Rex Sorensen has returned to Guam to develop his company's assets. As was indicated in the article found below. He acquired the Guam Fox affiliate. Sorensen also sought the development of the Saipan market and planned to set up a Fox affiliate station in Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, as well.
Sorensen
Media Group teams up with Fox Entertainment to bring the most popular
television progams in America to Guam's viewing public.
Sorensen
Television Systems, a division of Sorensen Media Group, was awarded an
affiliation agreement by Fox Entertainment. Ed Davis, vice president and
general manager of Sorensen Television Systems, and Rex Sorensen, president of
Sorensen Television Systems and Sorensen Media Group said they were thrilled
that Fox was gracious and allowed the group to become part of the Fox family of
affiliates. The agreement allows Sorensen Television Systems to carry Fox
programming on KEQI.
Fox owns and airs “American Idol” which
continues to shatter ratings and viewership records. As Guam is a mirror of
what is happening in America the value of Fox programming for advertisers
should be evident by the numbers all across the United States.
Sorensen
said there will be more upgrades to take place in the near future. "We're
installing a direct video link from the U. S. Mainland for the Fox programming,
which will enable us to carry all programming live or on a same-day delay of
only a few hours," Sorensen said. KEQI successfully negotiated with Fox
Entertainment to carry primetime programming on a same-day delayed basis, rather
than holding those programs for six days as is presently the practice for Guam
network affiliates.
Fox
programming is not unfamiliar to Guam's viewing audience however the Sorensen
Media Group felt the people of Guam and Fox were neglected. “Fox is a powerhouse
in the U.S. market. The decision, to enter into negotiations for an agreement
with Fox Entertainment, was easy. We plan to serve the island and Fox in a
manner that both parties will enjoy and appreciate,” Sorensen said.
Fox
Entertainment has an extensive lineup of sports programming including Major
League Baseball, NFL Football and NASCAR Racing. The network's primetime lineup
includes the nation's popular programs,
"American Idol," "House," "24," and "The
Simpsons" among others. "We are delighted to be able to serve the
market. We are also pleased to be able to bring these shows to Guam for
broadcast on the same day they are received, including innovative new
interactive programming, which Fox will soon bring to network television,"
Sorensen said.
Sorensen
Media Group through Sorensen Television Systems also owns and operates KTGM
(ABC14), the ABC affiliate on Guam , which the company purchased on November 1
, 2005 . It plans to launch KPPI on Saipan later this year, which will also be
an ABC affiliate broadcasting on Channel 7, over the air. KPPI will be the only
over-the-air television signal broadcast on Saipan.
KEQI will
broadcast the programming over the air on UHF Channel 22, which will also be on
MCV Channel 6. The launch is tentatively set for September 1, 2006. Fox ...

Air America picks up 2 million listeners on the Internet
|
People tuned in to the three stations that aired Air America but millions more tuned in across the United States. Air America's founder, Evan Cohen said in an interview that millions of people listened on the Internet to Air America. Cohen and his associates are visionaries ... they are the vanguard of talk radio and should be congratulated for their work to bring this station to life. The conservative view will be put in check for as long as there are people out there willing to speak up ... or maybe call up Air America.
HAVE NET, WILL LISTEN; AIR AMERICA RADIO AND REALNETWORKS DELIVERED OVER 2 MILLION STREAMS USING REALPLAYER 10

Evan M. Cohen and Air America hit the airwaves
In the conservative dominated world of talk radio ... it's about time ... a company ready to present another side to what has become mainstream has arrived. I have long waited to hear an answer to conservative talk radio - liberal radio - and I applaud Evan Cohen and the rest of the people behind Air America.
Air America is a breath of fresh air when people are too busy listening to right wing conservatives who are trampling on women's rights. It's taken years for women just to be seen as equals in corporate America, in the military, and even at home. In this day and age where news is being watered down or slanted it will be good to finally hear something worth listening to.
While this author does not agree with the Rush Limbaughs of the world they have just as much right to occupy the airwaves as anyone else. However, I don't hear the conservatives rushing to defend Air America when their callers tell them Air America has no right to be on the air. Instead they say that liberal media already exists and Air America is just adding to the mix ... that is a false. The media is not liberal, if anything, the media is too obtuse and not thought provoking or engaging enough. Air America is engaging. I am glad they exist. We need to have balance in this world.
CNN
LIVE AT DAYBREAK
Aired
March 29, 2004 - 06:30 ET
Air
America to hit the airwaves March 31st.
COSTELLO:
Move over Rush Limbaugh. Make room for Al Franken. Air America hits
the airwaves this week with liberal
talk
radio. Comedian Al Franken is among those hosting, and it looks like
the name of the show, "The O'Franken
Factor,"
is already taking jabs.
CNN's
Adaora Udoji has more.
(BEGIN
VIDEOTAPE)
AL
FRANKEN, COMEDIAN: If I was friends with Ken Adelman (ph), and I'm
sure he's a nice Jewish boy.
ADAORA
UDOJI, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Comedian Al Franken just
couldn't resist. Even the name of
his
upcoming radio show sounds like a punch line. It's called "The
O'Franken Factor," a clear swipe at the conservative
Bill
O'Reilly show, "The O'Reilly Factor."
The
creators of Air America, the country's first self-proclaimed liberal
radio network, are betting that humor will pull in
listeners.
EVAN
COHEN, CHAIRMAN AIR AMERICA RADIO: You take somebody as talented as
Al Franken, who is working as hard as he is, with as committed as he
is to being successful, and providing, you know, great radio to talk
about things that he believes are not in the American dialogue right
now.
UDOJI:
Indeed the airwaves are dominated by conservatives with Rush Limbaugh
leading the pack.
EVAN
COHEN: Al Franken brings a lot of attention and focus to our launch,
but the goal is to serve a large audience that is completely
underserved now. If we create good radio, day in and day out, radio
that’s engaging, relevant and entertaining, the audience will be
there. The key for us is to turn the buzz into real traction, even
with all the commentary that’s going to occur the moment we
actually sign on air.
But
analysts say there's plenty of room.
MICHAEL
HARRISON, EDITOR, "TALKERS" MAGAZINE: Being conservative or
being liberal are not the main
elements
in the recipe for success. You have to be talented and have some
special charismatic magic about you to
attract
a radio audience.
UDOJI:
Air America is promising provocative programs led by Franken,
actress/comedian Janeane Gorofalo and
hip-hop
godfather Chuck D of the group Public Enemy. Some argue it might even
help that Democrats are not in the
White
House, especially in a big presidential election year.
HARRISON:
Talk radio works best when it takes on power, when it flies in the
face of authority, when it takes the
